Highline Big Picture's Team Discusses Secondary Innovation

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Learn how Highline Big Picture moved from a single grade level start-up in 2005 to a grade 7-12 school that employs a college-preparatory experience infused with workplace internships to serve a diverse population. Explore how a board can foster or inhibit innovation meant to increase student engagement, family participation and post-secondary success.

Learner Outcomes:
1. Recognize barriers to student engagement and achievement inherent in the structures of most public middle and high schools. 2. Develop plans to move forward with innovations such as starting a new school, graduating students based on competencies rather than credits, incorporating community-based mentors as meaningful instructional partners, re-envisioning student leadership, etc. 3. Develop relationships for ongoing collaboration beyond this conference.
